browserAction.disable()

Disables the browser action for a tab, meaning that it cannot be clicked when that tab is active.

Syntax

chrome.browserAction.disable(
  tabId // optional integer
)

This API is also available as browser.browserAction.disable().

Parameters

tabIdOptional
integer. The id of the tab for which you want to modify the browser action.

Examples

Disable the browser action when clicked, and re-enable it every time a new tab is opened:

chrome.tabs.onCreated.addListener(() => {
  chrome.browserAction.enable();
});

chrome.browserAction.onClicked.addListener(() => {
  chrome.browserAction.disable();
});

Disable the browser action only for the active tab:

chrome.browserAction.onClicked.addListener((tab) => {
  chrome.browserAction.disable(tab.id);
});
