This is an experimental technology
Because this technology's specification has not stabilized, check the compatibility table for usage in various browsers. Also note that the syntax and behavior of an experimental technology is subject to change in future versions of browsers as the specification changes.

The referrerPolicy read-only property of the Request interface contains the referrer policy governing the referrer for the  request.

Note: The referrer is set in the HTTP Referer header, see the Referrer policy spec for more details about referrer policy.

Syntax

var myReferrerPolicy = request.referrerPolicy;

Value

A DOMString representing the request's referrerPolicy, as defined in ReffererPolicy. Possible values are:

  • An empty string if there is no referrer policy set.
  • no-referrer
  • no-referrer-when-downgrade
  • origin-only
  • origin-when-cross-origin
  • unsafe-url

Example

In the following snippet, we create a new request using the Request.Request() constructor (for an image file in the same directory as the script), then save the request referrer policy in a variable:

var myRequest = new Request('flowers.jpg');
var myReferrer = myRequest.referrerPolicy; // returns "" by default
