  <p>The <strong>Document Object Model</strong> (<strong>DOM</strong>) is an API for <a href="/en-US/docs/HTML" title="en-US/docs/HTML">HTML</a> and <a href="/en-US/docs/XML" title="en-US/docs/XML">XML</a> documents. It provides a structural representation of the document, enabling you to modify its content and visual presentation by using a scripting language such as <a href="/en-US/docs/JavaScript" title="https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/JavaScript">JavaScript</a>.</p>
